Beckett's Grief

Beckett knelt in the cold snow on Vandor-1. He looked at the two monuments he had just erected to Rio Durant and Val.
Val... The woman he had never told he loved. It was too late, too late for anything. Too late to say 'I love you', too late to settle down and too late to start a family. He never thought he would ever think about it. Now he knelt in the cold snow and the wind played with his hair.
He remembered the first time he had met Val. He admired her skills with explosives, her bravery and her cunning. She was the woman he was meant to be with and he had not realized it until now. Now she was dead. Caught by the detonation she set off to fulfill Dryden Vos's mission. She had died in vain. The coaxium was gone, gone like her. He suppressed the tears that threatened to come. Two good people were dead because of Enfys Nest and her marauders. The grief turned to anger that needed a target.
He found it in the young Han Solo. Beckett clenched his fist and punched the man without any warning. It didn't take the pain away, but it somehow satisfied him. Now he was calmer and could carry on.
If you take the first step in this life then you’re in for good.
