600 Steps to Destiny

Rey landed the Millennium Falcon on an island on Ahch-To.
She was not sure what she would find on the island. Would it really be Luke Skywalker? The Jedi Master she once thought was just a myth?
She left the old battered ship that she had somehow inherited from the late Han Solo. Chewbacca and R2-D2, who had accompanied her, stayed behind.

She began the ascent up 600 slippery steps, steps that would lead her to her fate. What would she find?
Rey was quite unsure whether she was ready to face Luke Skywalker. Suddenly she felt it like a homing beacon. Something, no, someone was there, on the peak of the island. She shivered in the cold wind that blew constantly. Halfway up, she passed the remains of the very first Jedi temple. This was where it had all begun. And perhaps it would begin here for her too. As she touched the walls of the buildings, she heard whispering voices, voices from the past that spoke to her. But she did not have time to waste on the voices. She had to continue her ascent.
She felt the weight of the lightsaber she was carrying in her satchel. It had once belonged to Luke and before that to his father. She would give it to him when he was on the peak, where she sensed vaguely a presence.

Finally she reached the peak and saw the figure of a man standing on the edge of the cliff, looking out over the churning sea. Slowly he turned around and slowly he pushed back his hood, revealing his graying hair and beard and his weather-beaten face. He looked at Rey with sad eyes.
It seemed as if all the misery of the galaxy weighed on his shoulders.
Rey looked at him, searched in her satchel and took out the lightsaber. With an outstretched arm, she presented the weapon to the man. But nothing happened. Luke Skywalker did not react to her or to his old lightsaber.
Rey wondered how long it would be before he spoke to her.
